URBAN TAXONOMIES
These vans, that I collected images of for over a year, are a cross section of individualization within the urban cityscape. You'll see what I mean after clicking on a few examples below.

h This project took place over a year, where I recorded the character of my neighborhood through the cargo wagons the people, drive, work and live in. Effectively using the symbol of the transport as a carrier of ideas as well.  I am interested in how the characterization of these vans represents their owners.  Some of the carriers are used for business, some are for driving the band and their equipement to their concert and some are used to move families into or out of the neighborhood where they can begin new lives.

It was remarkable to me that though all the 300+ photos of these transport vehicles were taken in literally a four block radius around my apartment in Berlin, the variations I found were numerous and curious!  This is not some silent competition to have the most tricked-out truck or van, but rather the unprompted individual expression of the character of their owners.  Even the spraypainted vans either belong to the one who did the spraypainting or is characterized by the spraypainter in the owners neighborhood, here in visually dynamic Friedrichshain.
Formally, the structure of the project is such that it creates a frame for looking at the environment around the carriers as well.  In this way I am not just studying the carriers themselves (and therefore the character of the owners as well), by keeping the subject matter static we can examine closer each carrier's relationship to the environment where it can be found.

At this time, I have only loaded a fraction of the total number of photographs I have (over 300).
